Mindy and Luke knew they wanted their Australian wedding to represent exactly who they were — modern, glamorous, and full of style. A custom lace bridal gown and individual bridesmaid dresses from White Runway in a gorgeous and unique dusty rose color not only made all the ladies feel special and confident, they added to the classy, understated tones of the wedding. The flowers were kept simple and white with touches of greenery, all paired with copper and geometric accents to really give it a modern flair. THE PROPOSAL
Luke and I met at work in 2014, one of those stories over the water bubbler. We instantly had an attraction and soon after we were inseparable. We truly bring the best out in each other and we are best friends. One of our favourite walks in the Brisbane hinterland is Mount Cootha, we walk it almost every weekend. Luke had one of his friends set up a champagne stop with a white linen table and white rose petals leading up to the peak, I kept walking, joking saying “this must be for us” and then I turned around and he was on one knee! I still thought he was joking as he tends to joke all the time, until he popped the ring out! We enjoyed a glass of bubbles with our friends that helped set it up. Luke knows I’m not into extravagant proposals so this was so simple but meant the world to us.
WEDDING PLANNING ADVICE
Wedding planning is a mix of fun, a little overwhelming but all in all you have to make it your own, fun project. I decided not to have a wedding planner, actually my mum was pretty much my wedding planner. She is such a perfectionist and very creative so if you don’t opt for a planner, you need someone that will take the creative lead if you’re not so creative yourself. I ensured that I booked all of the vendors as soon as we had settled on a date as I know the reputable ones book out up to years in advance so that would be my recommendation to any bride with planning. Also, create a spread sheet of deposits and payments against your budget for easy tracking. I found everything else just flowed on from there quite nicely. All in all, you have to have fun with it. If you have done as much as you possibly can with the planning, if anything minor goes wrong, you just need to embrace it and let the day flow without worrying. It’s your perfect day, you need to enjoy it J Making sure that our wedding truly reflected us as people. We had a vision of what we wanted and we stuck to it the whole way through. Also, choosing reputable vendors that have also worked on weddings together in the past helps a lot as they communicate very often and they know how each other work. We wanted simple but elegant with a touch of modern and glam, I ensured everything we planned was aligned to this style.
WEDDING FASHION
I had an idea in my head of exactly what I wanted for my dream gown. I went shopping with my maid of honours and my mum to a few bridal stores and everything was just OKAY. I went and met with Couture Designer, Jordanna Regan and as I was talking to her about my gown, she sketched my dream gown up in about 15 mins! I had lace imported from France and had my gown sheer at the bottom with skin tight mesh so I could have a very low back. Jordanna was absolutely amazing, she made the process so fun, adding her professional opinion and we collaborated so well to create my masterpiece. She is truly amazing.
We wanted simple and elegant, we opted for navy suits with a black lapel which looked very sophisticated. The girl’s dresses were Rosy Latte coloured which matched the suits perfectly and were quite neutral coloured with a slight buzz of Rose. They looked so beautiful. We wanted to go with different styles with the bridesmaids as I wanted every single one of them to feel amazing. Pia Glady’s dresses provided this, they felt and looked so beautiful and they could choose a style which suited their body shapes the most.
THE WEDDING DECOR
The Terrace room at the State Library is just beautiful with white marble floors and mirrored roofing with cabinets of beautiful china up the walls which overlooked amazing green trees in the distance. We did not want to take away anything from the beautiful venue itself so we kept our ceremony very simple with a squared white arbour with white and green blooms organically flowing through the frame. It was just beautiful. We wanted a very modern, and the mix of simple/glam for our styling so we opted for white flowers and green foliage on tall risers on each round table organically flowing with hints of copper votives on each table. We had hanging geometric chandeliers above the shiny white dancefloor with green foliage flowing between them. We had giant letters L&M off to the corner of the venue which complimented the view of the city skyline. We had our floral arbour transported from the ceremony and this created the frame of our photo booth.
UNIQUE WEDDING DETAILS
We played the shoe game during the reception which was a really funny and relaxed activity. We had our 2 MC’s (brother and friend) create the question and they bounced off each other so well, everyone had a laugh. We also had a photo booth which was framed with our arbour from the ceremony with a black and white striped back drop. This provided so much fun and entertainment from kids to grandparents! We spent a long time choosing our perfect songs for our wedding. We had many guests complement our songs saying how fitting they were to us. I walked down the aisle to Ed Sheeran’s version of Wonderwall (Oasis), this has been my favourite song growing up. Our bridal party and us were introduced into the reception with Levels by Avicii (I love my dance music and everyone was standing and clapping along, one of the bridesmaids even dropped the groomsmen on the dancefloor)! Cake cutting song was Sweet Disposition by Temper Trap. Father /Daughter dance was My Girl by the Temptations. (My Girl was my favourite movie growing up, I think I have watched it a hundred times. First dance was Childish Gambino’s version of Into You. Our weddings songs meant the world to us!
