Proteas and Ribbons: A Colorful Boho Wedding in Lake Como

The number one rule when wedding planning: make your wedding your own. Whether it's in front of two people or 200, across the world or across the street, make this once in a lifetime celebration truly represent you and your partner. And that's exactly what these two did. Proteas and ribbons filled their colorful boho wedding from the bouquet to the reception. Irene Fucci captured every magical moment of this Lake Como destination affair for us to ooh and aah over — see them all right this way in THE FULL GALLERY!

From the Photographer… “Patrizia and Roberto's wedding has a special place in my heart. They had this vision of an informal, quite intimate wedding filled with pastel colors and flowers and they come right from Switzerland to celebrate their love. I loved so many details about their wedding and since I'm a flower-addicted my jaw dropped when I first spotted the amazing reception set up with that foliage garland and all those pretty proteas and ribbons. So amazing! But I must confess that one of my very fave detail was their guestbook. They decided to avoid the classic book and opted for some broken pottery pieces that guests could sign up with a white sharpie instead. I feel that this is such a unique and personal idea, that they can shield for years and years!”

THE LOVE STORY

How did you meet?

Roberto and I (Patrizia) are coworkers. We actually started our relationship as friends and then our bond slowly grew day after day.

What is your proposal story?

Roberto proposed at the end of a getaway in Venice. It was such a perfect, romantic moment that I will treasure forever.

PLANNING A DREAM WEDDING

Tell us a little a bit about your wedding (your vision, color, style, and location choices).

We had a vision of an informal, quite intimate wedding filled with pastel colors and flowers and we knew there was nothing more romantic than getting married on the shores of Lake Como. So we got in touch with Elena and Anna (local wedding planner and stylist) and then our adventure began. First, we started looking for the perfect venue. We choose Villa Geno because of its intimate atmosphere, its bright interiors, lovely garden and above all view of the lake. Then it was time to hire the perfect photographer. We had a skype call with Irene Fucci and we knew she was the one. We just trusted our gut and we couldn't be happier about our decision.

What was the most important to the two of you while planning? Was there anything that you chose to splurge on or skip?

Location, decor, and food were the key points for us. We are nuts about details, so we definitely splurged a bit on flowers, decorations, and handmade details. Then we knew we wanted our guests to enjoy some great Italian food like local cheeses, salami and other amazing finger food and appetizers. I am from Apulia, so good food is a big part of my culture.

Do you have any advice for couples planning their weddings now?

Take your time to plan, don't be hurried and find vendors that you trust. But above all enjoy the journey. Planning your wedding day can be challenging, but itis such an incredible, unique time of your life.

IT'S ALL ABOUT THE DETAILS

Tell us about your wedding flowers.

I have a thing for flowers and I really loved all the blossoms and greenery that we had. My bouquet, garlands and mise en place were adorned with proteas, eucalyptus, amaranthus and other wildflowers.

Tell us about your wedding cake.

Our cake was a three-layered one decorated with flowers and gold foil.

What did you do for favors?

Our wedding favors included seeds and local candies, everything packed in cute craft boxes decorated with eucalyptus and linen ribbons.

Any DIY, handmade, or personal details?

We decided to avoid the classic guest book and opted for some broken pottery pieces that guests could sign up with a white sharpie instead. We feel that this is such a unique idea, that we can shield for years and years!

Any unique or interesting elements you want to point out?

I really enjoyed our sweet table. The “table” was actually made of an old upcycled door decorated with a long handwritten brown paper roll. ” Finally lots of amazing treats completed the table. So beautiful and so yummy!

THE FASHION

Tell us about your attire choices.

I (Patrizia) knew I wanted a romantic, timeless dress, so choosing a lace+tulle dress seemed like the most natural, right choice to me. While Roberto, wanted to look smart yet up to date and this is the reason why he picked up a classic suit paired with a colorful bow tie.
